Karamaha is proud to present:
Just Over the Hill.
Friday 26th February 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Red Shed Waitomo Village.
The title conveys the promise of a taonga or treasure that might be waiting Just Over the Hill. The first feelings of excitement as you realise one goal and are inspired to create another. For some it may be the representation of age and wisdom that contributes to the success of a person or group. For others it can be the realisation that they have the knowledge and skills to chase aspirations they could not have achieved in the past when they were younger and less experienced. Just Over the Hill is a collection of pieces created by local Painter, Ta Moko (Maori Tattoo) and Whakairo (Maori Carving) artist, Daniel Ormsby. It is his hope that the art he has aspired to create and perfect will inspire those that experience them.
The artwork on display explores the themes of potential and promise. It is a rare insight in to the artist’s passion for pushing his own boundaries. His willingness to reach out and realise his own potential. All pieces are original works inspired by the naturally occurring forms in nature. They echo the colours and beauty of the King Country region. Each piece is available to buy online or at the event. Every piece has a story to tell and a higher purpose, to help inspire those that have them adorning the wall of their home or work places. A continual reminder of the excitement that we feel when we aspire to something just out of reach. A vision that will remind every person of the promise and potential that exists Just Over The Hill.
Funds raised will be used to establish a Ta Moko (Maori tattoo) and tattoo studio at the Red Shed. This new addition will provide another outlet for local artists to showcase their craft as well as building the profile of tattooists in the region.
